Over the last couple of months, we’ve made 4 releases to our Universal Transfers beta program and have unlocked some great new functionality for those customers. It’s now impossibly simple to perform transfers between classes of different prices and have CourseStorm automate the necessary charges and refunds for those transfers.

Designing for the Probable

With this progress, I’d love to take a moment and highlight a critical design choice we made when building Universal Transfers that we think will make your lives easier and which you’ll be seeing more of as we release new updates and features over the coming months: designing for the probable.

To say that you are all “busy” would be an dramatic understatement, so our team’s goal for Universal Transfers has been to make the entire process of transferring between classes fast and seamless, but at the same time, customizable. We designed the new transfer process entirely upon those considerations.

What this means in practice is that when you go to perform a transfer, the process can be as simple as a single click to confirm, “Yes, I’d like to charge the student for the extra $30 that the new class costs” or “Yes, I’d like to carry over the promo code that was in use on the previous registration.” But if your situation calls for something different such as, “Actually, I’d prefer to waive the additional fee for the new class,” you have that option as well.

So, with Universal Transfers, you’ll see CourseStorm use sensible defaults everywhere that it makes sense so that we can save you any extra click we can. Yet, we’ll also give you the options to change those defaults whenever you like. Or, as we like to say it, “Design for the probable and provide for the possible.”

What’s Next

I’m pleased to say that we’re already hard at work on the next release for Universal Transfers, turning our attention to transfers between classes that require additional student information for the new class.

From there, our plan is to release this new feature to all of our customers, so that everyone can take advantage of these great new time-savers!

In the meantime, beta participants will continue to be the first to see this new functionality unfold over the coming weeks. If you’re interested in being one of those early adopters, feel free to reach out!
